Can I make a confession?

We don't know if baby is a boy or a girl yet. I need to admit that at this point, I'm hoping for a boy. There, I said it.

The truth is, I'll be afraid if baby is a girl. To think that I might not be able to protect her from things I have experienced scares me more than I can express in words. That's it; that's the only reason.

I need to find a way to get over this.

As a mom to a boy (and another on the way), I can tell you that you will have the exact same fears with a son. When it is your job to protect someone who is eventually going to be more physically capable of protecting you than you are him, it's scary. Especially when you know that there will come a time when all 5'10"+ will crumble and you have to pick him back up - that's overwhelming. But, I know you well enough to know that you are going to be one of the greatest moms ever to a son or a daughter. And I also know you well enough to know that you will love either sex with every ounce of your being and you will protect them with everything in you. =)

Oh Missie, I am sorry you are feeling that way. Baby Mchupie is a very lucky baby.

I'm with you and Pink. I am literally terrified of reacting "wrong" if they tell me LO is a girl. Will I love her? Without a doubt. But I'll be scared out of my mind thinking about all of the things I dealt with that I don't even want her THINKING about. And I worry that I won't know what to do with or how to relate to a girl. Not in the "oh gross how will I even CHANGE her or BREASTFEED her" way, don't worry. But in the "oh crap, do I have a snowball's chance in hell of doing right by her?" way.

I realize boys come complete with their own set of worries. I don't know why the thought of a girl terrifies the everloving hell out of me.

Lots of love to you. Just thinking about that stuff proves that you are going to be an amazing mom (not that there was any doubt).
