My (slightly embarrassing) Christmas gift

When I was young I had an American Girl doll named Molly.  She had so many cute outfits that I would dress her up in and I loved reading all of her WW-II era stories.  I knew that one day I would want Carina to have one of these dolls.

Over the last few years, the American Girl company has been discontinuing many of the historical dolls in favor of producing more of the modern dolls (that you can create to look like you and wear clothes like you).  I think this is kind of a shame; part of the fun, in my opinion, was learning about a different period in history and how young girls lived then.

When I realized that they are discontinuing the Felicity and Elizabeth dolls from the Revolutionary War/Colonial era at the end of this year, I was really sad.  These dolls have the most gorgeous dresses and interesting stories.  I mentioned to M that they are being discontinued a couple weeks ago, and look what I got for Christmas:

Felicity (left), and Elizabeth (right)

They will probably just sit in their boxes for a few years, but once Carina is old enough, I think we'll have so much fun playing together!

So yeah, I got dolls for Christmas.  What did you get?  ;)

That is such a thoughtful (and adorable!) gift! I loved reading American Girl books when I was younger too. :-)

I too was hooked on those stories, but my parents where too poor to buy me a doll and i had to settle and just leaf through the catalogs. My mom said she still gets the catalogs in the mail. I think it is great that Mike paid attention and out thought into our gift!

I had (well still have) Molly!! It was one of my favorite toys, and I'm sad to hear they are discontinuing the historical dolls. That was the whole point, wasn't it? to learn about history and such? Eh. I'm jealous of your gift - I'm sure you and Carina will love playing with them!

Not embarrassing at all! Mike gets major brownie points for listening to your feelings about these dolls. I think this is a perfect gift. :)

I got a Molly ornament and my sister got a Felicity one. I was so sad when I heard that Samantha was retired. She was my fave :(

OMG Molly was my fave too! When I was in college (yes, college) I got one of the American Girl of Today dolls, but then I bought all of the Molly outfits for her because I liked them better.
I can't believe they are d/cing those dolls, that is really unfortunate. I think they taught little girls such great lessons. Glad you got some dolls for Carina!

I always wanted an American Girl doll! specifically Samantha. I wish they wouldn't phase out the older dolls. So glad you were able to get them for Carina! such a great idea
