Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag - Review

It has been quite chilly in Connecticut as of late! I have to say that so far it is much more mild than the last few winters in Wisconsin, but nonetheless it is still close to freezing on a daily basis. Our new apartment is the first floor of a drafty old (read: 100+ years) home, so unless we blast the heat to 75 degrees, Carina is going to have to sleep in {many} layers.

The wonderful folks over at Merino Kids were kind enough to send one of their comfy cozy sleep bags for Carina to try. We received the Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag in Fairy Rose, in their 0-2 years size. Made from New Zealand's finest merino wool, these sleep bags are durable, breathable, itch-free, allergy-safe, machine washable, and naturally fire resistant.

Merino has the remarkable ability to regulate body temperature. It captures and circulates air to insulate baby when the room temperature falls, and releases excess body heat and moisture as the room temperature rises. Baby stays warm and dry through night and day without overheating. A 2010 AgResearch study determined that babies sleeping in Merino Kids' newborn merino sleep sack are less likely to overheat or to become damp or chilled compared with synthetic polar fleece sleep sacks.

As a result, the Merino Kids Sleep Bag is perfect for both cold winters and warm summers! In addition to this element of simplicity, the Sleep Bag comes in two different sizes: 0-2 years, and 2-4 years. I love that it will fit Carina until she is 2, and that we can use it right away if and when a new baby comes along ;)  There are armpit snaps that make the Sleep Bag fit even newborns snugly.

One shoulder has snaps and there is a full length zipper which means that the Sleep Bag opens up flat for easy dressing. Carina is at that funny stage where she revolts against getting dressed, so this is super helpful. Wrangling her into traditional sleep sacks has proven quite difficult. The Merino Kids Sleep Bag is very sturdy and the material is rather heavy - so I know she is being kept warm enough at night. The quality is impressive.

OMG seat belt slot!
Some of my favorite features of the Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag include:
  • A seat belt slot! You can easily put baby in a car seat or stroller while still in the sleep bag.
  • There is a zipper along the bottom! Super easy diaper changes, or you can let baby walk around while still wearing the sleep bag. I like to let Carina hang out in hers for a few minutes after waking up in the morning (ahem - while Momma gets her coffee hehe).
  • The contoured bodice! Ensures that baby (no matter how small) can get the Sleep Bag up over their face.
  • Comes with a cute little travel bag. I love me some little added bonuses.
This Sleep Bag is so versatile...from warm weather to cold weather, from newborn to 2 years old, from crib to car seat. It's a little pricey, but well worth it when you consider that you won't need to buy thin cotton sleep bags for the summer and fleece ones for the winter in multiple different sizes. I highly recommend the Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag for any sleep sack enthusiast out there ;)
