Carina's first magazine: Highlights Hello - Review & Giveaway! CLOSED

When I was young, I loved the Hidden Pictures pages in Highlights magazine. Whenever I found myself at the dentist or doctor's office, I reached for Highlights and had at it. Truth? Whenever I'm there waiting for an appointment today I will still opt for Highlights over Lucky or People magazine. What can I say? I prefer locating hidden utensils and tools to viewing much-too-skinny models or reading about Tom Cruise's latest dose of crazy. 

I had the opportunity to meet the Highlights team during BlogHer and had such a wonderful time! They threw a lovely brunch to celebrate the upcoming launch of their magazine for babies ages 0-2 and their caregivers, entitled Highlights Hello.

Receiving the advanced reading copy of the magazine was absolutely perfect timing for us, as I left New York City immediately after BlogHer and drove straight to Virginia Beach (yep - 6 hours in the car with a 19 Month old!) for vacation with Mike and Carina. I gave her her very own copy of Highlights Hello after she woke up from a nap and she had a blast reading it! She calls it her "magazine", although I have to admit it sounds more like "mah-ah-zee".

Highlights Hello is printed with non-toxic ink that contains soy and/or vegetable oils, so no need to worry about your little one trying to eat the pages. The paper itself is durable and washable, and even has rounded corners. Basically? It's indestructible. Baby can attempt to rip it, chew on it, or even throw it in the toilet and you can just watch, giggle, and feel proud about how smart you are for giving them something that they can't destroy. There may or may not be a few bite marks on ours, although our cat might actually be to blame for that... ;)

With colorful images, simple stories, and fun activities, Highlights Hello is perfect to share with your baby. I sit with Carina in my lap and read her the stories as she points out items in the pictures. "Birdy! Bunny! Ball!" she really gets going. Highlights' mission for their new magazine:

Additionally, expert advice from pediatricians, psychologists, and educators is printed inside the envelope of the magazine to provide support and encouragement for new parents.

As you can see above, Carina really enjoys "reading" Highlights Hello. I can't wait to receive future issues! The only room I see for improvement would be making the magazine a little longer. I think Carina would appreciate a few more pages to peruse ;)
